A. Hearth P rotection Req uirements
F LOOR P ROTECTION :
combustible material, ex t ending beneath heater and to the
front, sides and rear as indicated. The floor must be non-
combustible or otherwise adeq uately protected from radiant
heat given off by the unit and from spark s and falling embers.
A layer of thin brick or ceramic tile over a combustible floor
is not sufficient.
In US ins tallations , it is necessary to install a floor protec-
tor of 1 inch ( " k " value= .4 5 ) thick metal clad millboard or
eq uivalent at least 1 6 inches ( 4 0 6 mm) in front of glass and 8
inches ( 2 0 3 mm) to both sides of the fuel loading door. O pen
the door and measure 8 inches ( 2 0 3 mm) from the side edge
of the opening in the face of the appliance. * See ex ception.

In Canada, similar floor protection must be provided 18
inches ( 4 5 7 mm) in front and 8 inches ( 2 0 3 mm) from the
sides and rear of the stove. * See ex ception.
* EX CEP TION:
Non-combustible floor protections must
extend beneath the flue pipe when installed with horizontal
venting and e x tend 2 inches ( 5 1 mm ) beyond each side.

Fire Risk.
• Hearth pads must be installed exactly as
specified.
High temperatures or hot embers may ignite
concealed combustibles.
