14.6 Printing Partly Missing along the Feed Direction

Intermec EasyCoder PD4—Service Manual
Description:
Part of the print image is missing on the label along the feed direction.
Possible Causes and Suggested Remedies:
• Ribbon wrinkled.
- In case of thermal transfer printing, check the transfer ribbon for
wrinkles and creases. Reload if necessary. If the problem remains,
adjust the ribbon tension as described in Chapter 6.3.
• Printhead dirty or something is stuck on the printhead.
- Check the printhead for dirt, adhesive residue, contamination from
the back side of the transfer ribbon, stuck labels, etc. If necessary,
clean as described in the User's Guide using isopropyl alcohol or a
cleaning card. Never use any sharp tools. As a last resort, replace the
printhead (see Chapter 7.7).
• Printhead damaged.
- One or more of the heat-sensitive resistors ("dots") on the printhead
has been damaged or is worn out. Replace the printhead (see Chapter
7.7).
• Bad printhead balance.
- If the printing is weak or non-existing on either the inner or outer
part of the media, the printhead balance may need to be readjusted as
described in Chapter 7.7. This is most likely to occur when switching
between media of different widths.
