18. 'Carriage Axis Failure' (Internal Error Shutdown) error messages appear
on control panel display at random intervals causing print failures and
printer reboots. The carriage bushings are excessively dirty or worn; clean
or replace carriage bushings (4 or 6 depending on the previous service
action). During printing, and prior to the error message, a common
symptom resembles rainbow or data-shift problems similar to those
pictured below; erratic (non-smooth) carriage movement may also be
observed during these 'mis-prints'.
