  • Page 26 NovaJet 800 Series Training Guide Faint cut lines or heavy lines which angle slightly on one end are caused by the carriage head hitting the media surface. Media up to a 20 mil thickness can pass through the printer. Ensure media has not been exposed to humidity for long periods as this will cause media to become stiff.
  • Page 27 NovaJet 800 Series Training Guide Larger than normal ink droplets (0.5- 2 mm) on the media are caused by excessive pressure in the cartridge. Ensure the cartridge only has 20 ml of ink inside and the ink reservoirs do not have more than 400 ml of ink inside.
  • Page 28 NovaJet 800 Series Training Guide Ensure the diagonal lines in the prime pattern are solid and exhibit consistency. Up to 20 jets may be compensated in each cartridge while maintaining photo pass quality printing. Horizontal bands along the right edge of the media are typically caused by a dirty service station or cartridge.
  • Page 29 NovaJet 800 Series Training Guide Ink over spray can be caused by compression utilities. Electrostatic discharge from film media has also been known to exceed the printer specifications and cause inconsistent overspray. Verify the strike-plate brushes are in good condition before resuming print operations. Do not use 3-prong to 2-prong adapters when connecting printer to power source;...
  • Page 30 NovaJet 800 Series Training Guide Vertical banding through an image can be caused by mottling of the ink on low saturation media like bond, the carriage bushings are worn out causing ‘carriage chatter’, or the lower roller is extending too high through the platen.

The Kodak 4800 series printers originally used light fast (LF) dye inks which follow the same configurations as GS+ above. The LF pigment inks were only available in the CMYK ink configuration, but are no longer available. Kodak 4800 customers who wish to use Encad inks/cartridges should upgrade printer firmware (NJ8x2013.rom).
  • Page 35: Dry Time Guidelines

Technical Bulletin 2 Dry Time Guidelines - Printer in Auto Take-up Mode The NovaJet 800/KODAK 4800 series printers are considered some of the fastest inkjet printers in the market. Consequently, certain images, using high-speed pass settings, may not have enough time to dry before being automatically rolled up on the take-up assembly.

  • Page 39 NovaJet 800 Series Training Guide Rigid media should be stored laying down on a flat surface. Storing media vertically will damage the media and cause a media deviation. Damaged media, due to shipping, should be returned to the source. Warped media will not feed properly through the NovaJet 880.

Operational Note: Initial Power Up Sequence The printer will not fully initialize if the center platen section, or adjustable platen, is out of range (above the upper limit or below the lower limit). Either the media must be loaded or the platen raised to within range of the proper print gap sensor limits.

  • Page 51 NovaJet 800 Series Training Guide If neutral-to-ground voltage, above 6 volts AC, is present then a serious problem is present within the building's electrical system. Often a mis-wired connection or imbalanced phase load can cause voltage/current to ‘bleed’ onto the ground line (commonly referred to as neutral-to-ground voltage) or a serious ground fault exists within the building.
  • Page 52 NovaJet 800 Series Training Guide E. Common Mistakes 1. The printer should only be grounded to the buildings electrical receptacle/outlet using the power cable provided and should conform to all electrical building grounding regulations in accordance with country/regional regulations. If a printer grounding problem is discovered only have a certified electrician ground the power source receptacle properly.
