Replacing the battery

A. Battery without cover (see illustration)
• Check that the ignition is switched off.
at least 10 minutes before touching
any electrical terminals (so that the infor-
mation in the car's electrical system can
be stored in the different control
modules).
• Undo the bolts from the lock brace over
the battery and remove the brace.
• Fold up the plastic cover over the positive
terminal of the battery.

• Disconnect the positive lead and remove
the plastic cover from the positive
terminal.
• Detach the oxyhydrogen gas evacuation
hose from the battery.
• Undo the nut from the lower bracket and
remove the bracket.
• Lift out the old battery.
• Put the new battery in place.
• Fit the lower bracket and tighten the nut.
• Press the plastic cover of the positive
battery terminal in place and connect the
positive lead.
• Fold down the plastic cover over the
positive terminal and then connect the
negative lead.
• Make sure the evacuation hose is
correctly connected to both the battery
and the outlet in the bodywork.
• Fit the lock brace over the battery and
tighten the bolts.

Once you have unscrewed the bracket and the
cover from over the battery, remove the battery
as described in version A.

Important!
Repeated use of the parking heater and other
great power consumers in combination with
short trips can lead to battery discharge and
thereby difficulty starting.
If great power consumers are used regularly,
the car should be driven for the same amount
of time as these consumers were connected
in order to ensure that the generator is able
to produce enough energy to compensate for
the amount consumed.
WARNING!
The battery can develop oxyhydrogen gas,
which is extremely explosive. To prevent
oxyhydrogen gas from remaining in the
cargo and passenger compartments, there is
an evacuation hose that leads any oxyhy-
drogen gas from the battery to the outside of
the car.
If the battery must be replaced for some
reason, make certain that the evacuation
hose is connected to the new battery and it is
run downwards to its intended outlet in the
bodywork.
