Tyres with tread
wear indicators
Tread wear indicators
are narrow, raised areas
across the tread that
have approximately
1.6 mm less tread depth
than the remainder of
the tyre (the letters TWI are on the side of the
tyre). When this bar is visible, only 1.6 mm of
tread remains and the tyre should be replaced
immediately. Bear in mind that road grip and
the tyre's ability to push water out of the way is
already markedly affected when there is 3-4
mm of remaining tread.

Replacing wheels –
summer/winter
When replacing winter tyres with summer tyres,
mark the tyre location, e.g. L = left, R = right.
Tyres should rotate in the same direction during
their entire service life.
Tyres meant to rotate in one direction only have
an arrow indicating rotation direction.
If the tyres are incorrectly installed, braking
ability and traction are impaired in rain, snow
and slush.
Tyres with the deepest tread must always be
mounted in the rear, irrespective of front
wheel or all wheel drive.
Consult your nearest Volvo dealer if you are
unsure.
Tyres should be stored on their sides or
suspended, never standing upright.
Driving characteristics and tyres
Tyres affect driving characteristics greatly.
Tyre type, dimension and pressure are
important to how the car performs. When you
change wheels, be sure to use the same type,
dimension and brand on all four wheels. Follow
the recommendations regarding tyre pressure.
