    INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS To ensure safety and proper machine performance, please note the following before initial installation and whenever the machine is to be relocated. The copier should be installed near an accessible power outlet for easy connection. Be sure to connect the power cord only to a power outlet that meets the specified voltage and current requirements.

    ADDING TONER Place the new toner cartridge with the tabs in the notches as shown. Slide the toner cartridge along the guides over the toner hopper.     AUDITING ACCOUNTS If this copier has been programmed in the auditing mode, it will not function until an assigned 3-digit account number has been entered.     NORMAL COPYING Two-sided copying with optional duplex module Two-sided copies can be made by pressing the ORIGINAL TO COPY key when an optional duplex module is installed.     USING THE MANUAL FEED TRAY (special paper) The manual feed tray is used to copy onto transparency film, labels, tracing paper, and other special purpose papers. Up to 50 sheets of standard copy paper can be set in the manual feed tray. Automatic duplex copying will not work when a non-standard sized paper is used.

    USING THE MANUAL FEED TRAY (special paper) Two-sided copying with manual feed tray Two-sided copies can be made using the manual feed tray. Place the first original face down on the document glass and make a copy. The first side of the copy can be made using any of the paper feed stations.

    REDUCTION/ENLARGEMENT/ZOOM Reduction and enlargement ratios can be selected either auto- matically with the AUTO IMAGE key or manually with the reduction ) key, enlargement ( ) key, or ZOOM keys. The zoom function enables precise copy ratio selection from 50% to 200% in 1% increments.

    DUAL PAGE COPYING The DUAL PAGE COPY feature produces separate copies of two documents placed side by side on the document glass. It is especially useful when copying books and other bound documents and can be used with the MARGIN SHIFT feature. If an optional duplex module is installed, this feature can also be used with two- sided copying.

    EDGE ERASE Edge erase can be used to eliminate shadow lines around the edges of copies caused when thick paper or a book is used as an original. Place the original face down on the document glass and close the document cover. If an optional document feeder (ADF or RADF) is installed, place the originals face up in the document feeder tray.

    MARGIN SHIFT The MARGIN SHIFT feature automatically shifts the text or image to the right on one-sided copies to increase the left margin by ap- Original Copy proximate 1/4".     INTERRUPTING A COPY RUN INTERRUPT can be used to temporarily stop a long copy run so that another job can be run. Reduction/enlargement/zoom, exposure adjustments, dual page copying, edge erase, and margin shift can be selected during interrupt copying. Duplex copying, sort, group, and staple sort cannot be selected during interrupt copying.

    MISFEED REMOVAL When a misfeed occurs, the copier will stop. If paper becomes accidentally torn during removal, The misfeed ( ) indicator will blink and blinking be sure to remove all pieces.   • Page 25 MISFEED REMOVAL Misfeed in a paper tray Open the side cover. NOTE: If the transport area misfeed indicator is lighted, clear the transport area first. (See below, “Misfeed in the transport area.”) Remove the misfed paper. Be careful not to tear the misfed paper during removal. If the paper cannot be seen from the side, pull out the paper tray and remove the misfed paper.

NOTE: If any other misfeed locations are indicated, be sure to remove any misfed paper from these locations before performing the procedure described below. If not, a sheet of paper in another location may become torn and difficult to remove.

    Keep the full toner collecting container until the next regular service call. Your authorized Sharp Service Technician will collect the container for disposal. Install the new toner collecting container by pushing it down onto the spring-loaded tray and then allowing it to move upward and click into place.

    When the developer replacement required ( ) indicator lights up, the developer should be replaced. DEVELOPER REPLACEMENT SHOULD ONLY BE DONE BY AN AUTHORIZED SHARP SERVICE TECHNICIAN.     USER PROGRAMS The user programs allow the parameters of certain functions to be set, changed, or cancelled as desired. List of user programs This copier has the following user programs. Program No. Program name Description Auto clear time Sets the auto clear time. The copier returns to the initial settings when the auto clear time elapses after the last copy is made.

    ADF (SF-A17)/RADF (SF-A56) AUTOMATIC DOCUMENT FEEDER ( SF-A17 ) REVERSING AUTOMATIC DOCUMENT FEEDER ( SF-A56 ) An automatic document feeder (ADF) and reversing automatic document feeder (RADF) will handle 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" to 11" x 17" originals. If an RADF is installed, two-sided originals can be copied automatically without having to manually turn them over.

    10-BIN STAPLE SORTER (SF-S54N) Staple cartridge replacement The CHECK STAPLER indicator will blink when the staple cartridge is empty and the copier is in the STAPLE SORT mode. Replace the staple cartridge as follows. If there are still many staples left, then staples have jammed in the stapler.

    10-BIN STAPLE SORTER (SF-S54N) Staple jam removal If staples become jammed in the stapler, the CHECK STAPLER indicator and the STAPLE SORT mode indicator will blink. Remove the jammed staples in the manner described below. SF-S54N 10-bin staple sorter Open the stapler cover. Close the stapler cover.
