LaCie Professional Server
Technical Brief: RAID
5.6. Volume Activity During a
Resynch

5.6.1. Rebooting During a Resynch

Rebooting the 5big Storage Server while Disk Management is Re-
synching a mirror or RAID 5 volume will not harm the configuration
or its data. However, since the process was interrupted, Disk Man-
agement will automatically start a new resynch at 0% once the 5big
Storage Server has rebooted.
Due to the size of large volumes such as the 5big Storage Server
Data (RAID 5), rebooting during a resynch in progress could extend
the operation for many hours.
5.6.2. Accessing Data on a Volume that is
Resynching
A volume that is in the midst of a resynch may be accessed by work-
stations on the network. Users can read or write to the volume. How-
ever, performance will be degraded while Windows Storage Server
is rebuilding the mirror and/or RAID 5.
