Oracle archived redo logs

The replication manager automatically discovers archived redo logs that are associated with Oracle
tablespaces. These resources are displayed in the content pane and can be backed up and recovered
using GUI actions or jobs.
A complete database recovery requires the most recent backup of the datafiles, plus backups of the
archived redo logs that were generated since the backing up the datafiles.
Periodic backups. Redo information is generated constantly by Oracle and it is necessary to back
up archived redo logs periodically.
IMPORTANT:
Periodic backups is a critical aspect of backup and recovery planning. Any gap in the archived
redo log sequence prevents a complete recovery.
Recovery data exposure. A recovered database can only be rolled forward to the point reflected
in the most recent backup of the archived redo logs. This point determines the data exposure or
maximum amount of data that might be lost in the event of a problem.
Archivelog mode. An Oracle database must be running in the archivelog mode to produce
archived redo logs.
Keep or delete archived redo logs? If enough free space is available, HP recommends keeping
archived redo logs between datafile backups. This can speed recovery if only the datafiles become
unusable. However, once backed up, archived redo logs can be deleted to free up disk space.
Oracle control files
The replication manager automatically discoverscontrol files that are associated with Oracle tablespaces.
These resources are displayed in the content pane.

Oracle databases

The replication manager automatically discovers databases on enabled hosts. These resources are
displayed in the content pane and can be replicated (backed up) and restored (recovered) using GUI
actions or jobs.
You can choose to back up or recover the archived redo log files that are associated with the
database. See
You can also select and work with individual tablespaces. See
Oracle datafiles
The replication manager automatically discoversdatafiles that make up Oracle tablespaces. These
resources are displayed in the content pane and can be backed up and recovered using GUI actions or
jobs.
When you select a database or tablespace to back up or recover, the replication manager backs
up or recovers all the datafiles that make up the database or tablespace.
You cannot use the replication manager to back up or recover individual datafiles.
License displays
License information is displayed in the GUI. See the following table.
If the licenses summary indicates an issue, you can use the License Events pane to identify the affected
storage array. Then, you can review the affected array's license information in the Storage Properties
window.
