Media Import
When media is imported into a Data Protector Express catalog, the user is prompted to enter the
passphrase. If a hint was supplied when encryption was enabled, it will also be displayed.
Data Protector Express checks the passphrase entered, if it is correct, imports the media and stores the
passphrase in its catalog. The user can then use the media without needing to enter the passphrase again.

Compression

if the backup device has hardware compression then performance will be better if only hardware
compression is used, and that there is little to no benefit of having both enabled and enabling software
compression will reduce performance.

Execution

In this chapter
• Pre Execution Commands
• Post Execution Commands
• Command Macros
You can define commands to be executed before the backup job runs and after the backup job runs.
They are often used to perform custom OS-specific or application-specific tasks, such as to stop/start a
database. Commands are defined on the Execution page of a backup job.
