The hard disk map

Disk Tune displays a map of the hard disk with blocks—each block consists of
a variable number of clusters, depending on the disk's size—color coded to
indicate their status.
You can identify the contents of a block in the hard drive map by clicking it.
This is useful if you want an indication of which files make up a block, whether
these particular files are fragmented, or held (designated as unmovable), and
so on. The file list offers information on the Cluster Number, Contents,
Condition, Type, and Attributes of all the files in the block. You can also click
a column title to sort files by that column.

Setting advanced options

You can access Disk Tune's advanced options by clicking the Advanced
button. The Defragmentation Options dialog box appears, which provides
three tabs of options: Functions, File Placement and Directory Sort.
The Functions tab
The Functions tab allows you to select the functions, safety level and write
verification levels.
• Zero Free Space–zeros out the free clusters after you finish tuning the disk.
This wipes out any leftover data from deleted files, and prevents recovery
using an undelete program.
• Show Final Organization–shows the final map of your disk once you have
completed defragmentation and optimization.
• Single Sector I/O–reads and writes data on a "single sector by single
sector" basis. This method is very slow but may be necessary for some
types of disk drive controllers.
• Remove Deleted Directory Entries–removes deleted entries from
directories and consolidates active entries to optimize directories.
• Optimize the Swap File–optimizes the Windows Swap File to improve the
performance of your system.
• Safe Mode and Exclusive Lock–increases the safety of your data during
optimization. Safe Mode takes extra steps to ensure that you will not lose
any drive data even in the event of a power failure. Exclusive Lock
prevents any other application from accessing your disk during the
tune-up which would slow down the tuning process.
