2. During CheckUp, the component currently under examination is
highlighted. Status information at the bottom of the screen lets you know
exactly what CheckUp is doing.
To perform a specific CheckUp
1. If you are having a specific hardware problem, click the appropriate
component in the CheckUp desktop. A pop-up menu appears.
2. Click the check for the selected component. First Aid will perform a
CheckUp on that component only.
Fixing problems
When CheckUp is finished, First Aid displays the number of problems it
found via the CheckUp Report screen. The problems are in order of severity:
• Critical Problems. Urgent problems such as a failing hard drive or missing
software components that need to be attended to immediately.
• Potential Problems. Less serious problems that might affect your PC. For
example, a potential problem is a bad shortcut, one that no longer properly
points to an application on your PC.
• Tips & Performance Issues. Suggestions for improving the performance of
your PC. For example, a performance tip might suggest that you install
QuickTime if it isn't already installed.
From the CheckUp Report screen, you can:
• Fix many problems automatically using AutoFix.
• Fix problems that require manual fixes.
• View the problems First Aid found. If you are curious about what First Aid
found, click View to display the Fix Info screen, which lists each problem
identified during the CheckUp. From the Fix Info screen, you can AutoFix
individual problems or find out additional information about a problem.
• Cancel the Report and return to the CheckUp desktop. Click Cancel or the
Back button to return to the CheckUp desktop. To return to the initial
CheckUp Report screen, click the Back button.
Using AutoFix
When CheckUp reports that your PC has problems, your best course of action
is to click AutoFix from the initial CheckUp report screen. First Aid will then
attempt to fix all of the glitches listed in the CheckUp Report. After an AutoFix,
First Aid might report that some problems identified in the CheckUp cannot
be AutoFixed: a manual fix is the solution for these problems.
