Clean the air cleaner every 4000 km (2500
mi) or 12 months, change it every 8000 km
(5000 mi) or more frequently if the vehicle
is used on dusty or wet roads.
It is possible to clean the air cleaner partial-
ly after using the vehicle on this kind of
roads.

The partial cleaning of the filter
does not exclude or postpone
the replacement of the filter it-
self.

REMOVAL
Lift the fuel tank, see p. 57 (LIFTING
THE FUEL TANK).
Unscrew and remove the two screws
(1).
Unscrew and remove the two screws (2)
and take the nuts positioned under them.
Remove the filter case cover (3).
Remove the filtering element (4) together
with the grids (5).

Plug the opening with a clean
cloth, to prevent any foreign
matters from entering the suc-
tion pipes.
CLEANING
Clean the filtering element (4) with clean,
non-inflammable solvents or solvents
with high volatility point, then let it dry
thoroughly.
Apply a filter oil or a thick oil (SAE 80W-
90) on the whole surface of the filtering
element, then squeeze it to eliminate the
oil in excess.

The filtering element (4) must be
well impregnated, though not
dripping.
CHANGING
Replace the filtering element (4) with a
new one of the same type.
