Installation and Operation of Model 8900 VR
v)
OPTIONAL Base Purge Ball Valve; Used to force mixed material
from mixer with base only material prior to shutdown. Base purge
ball valve is located near inlet to mixer. When open, this valve
allows base material only to be pumped directly form the pump to
the mixer (bypassing the meter).
This base purge valve is OPEN when valve is parallel to line and
CLOSED when perpendicular to line.
This base purge vale is always used in conjunction with the Meter
Outlet coupled ball valves located after the meter outlet. When
open, the coupled meter outlet ball valves allow metered material
to flow to the mixer; when CLOSED, the metered material will not
flow to the mixer.
When the base purge ball valve is OPEN, the coupled ball valves
at the meter outlet must be closed first or the base purge operation
is defeated.
See also detailed procedure on base purge operation.
Procedure:
1. CLOSE the coupled ball valves after the meter outlet.
2. OPEN the base purge ball valve. When a visual inspection
shows that only base material is flowing from mixer, CLOSE the
base purge valve.
3. Leave the coupled ball valves closed until you are ready to
begin dispensing.
vi)
OPTIONAL Meter Outlet Coupled Ball Valves (used in conjunction
with Base Purge Valve): Located after meter outlet but not always
mounted in front of meter. When open (handle down), material is
allowed to flow to mixer; when closed (handle up) material is
prevented from flowing to outlet mixer.
