Services
You add filtered services–in addition to proxied ser-
vices–to control and monitor the flow of IP packets
through the Firebox. Services can be configured for
outgoing and incoming traffic, and they can be active
or inactive. When you configure a service, you set the
allowable traffic end points and determine the filter
rules and policies for each of these services. You can
also create services to customize rule sets, destina-
tions, protocols, ports used, and other parameters.
With both packet filters and proxies, you can deter-
mine which hosts within your LAN and on the Inter-
net can communicate with each other through that
protocol, which events to log (such as rejected incom-
ing packets), and which series of events should initiate
a notification of the network administrator.
