The evaluat ion board provides access t o one x16 PCI Express* connect or. Any indust ry
st andard x16 PCI Express* video adapt er m ay be used wit h t his int erface. The
evaluat ion board also provides access t o t wo x1 PCI Express* connect ors. Any indust ry
st andard x1 PCI Express* adapt er m ay be used wit h t hese int erfaces.
3 .4 .3 .2 SATA Su ppor t
The evaluat ion board provides support for up t o t wo SATA disk drives. The SATA
cont rollers are soft ware com pat ible wit h I DE int erfaces, while providing lower pin
count s and higher perform ance.
These are t wo SATA connect ors on t he evaluat ion board. The SATA Cable connect
provides bot h signalling and power whit e t he SATA Direct connect only provides signals
( t he user t ypically uses an ATX power supply for t he drive power) .

The evaluat ion board has a 40- pin connect or for t he I CH7- M's int egrat ed I DE cont roller.
This connect or support s up t o t wo Ult ra ATA/ 100 hard drives; one m ast er and one
slave.
Not e: Deskt op hard drives m ust be powered by an ext ernal ATX power supply.
3 .4 .3 .4 USB Por t s
The evaluat ion board provides five USB ( 2.0) port s on t he rear panel and t hree
addit ional port s t hrough headers ( J6H2 and J7E2) .
There are four UHCI Host Cont rollers and an EHCI Host Cont roller. Each UHCI Host
Cont roller includes a root hub wit h t wo separat e USB port s each, for a t ot al of eight
legacy USB port s.
The EHCI Host Cont roller includes a root hub t hat support s up t o eight USB 2.0 port s.
The connect ion t o eit her t he UHCI or EHCI cont rollers is dynam ic and dependant on t he
part icular USB device. As such, all port s support High Speed, Full Speed, and Low
Speed ( HS/ FS/ LS) .
