TO LISTEN TO A CASSETTE TAPE
@ This unit can play Type | (normal) or Type II (HIGH/
CrO,) tapes.
1. Press the EJECT mark to open the cassette
door, then insert a cassette tape.
Close the door by hand.
2. Press the DOLBY NR button to select the
Dolby Noise Reduction mode.
Each time the button is pressed, the mode changes
as follows:

When Dolby NR is set to ON, the 00 mark lights.
3. Press the TAPE function bunton.
Playback begins.
4. To stop playback, press the stop button.
NOTES:
@ During tape playback, do not press the EJECT mark.

The DOLBY NR button should be set to the same
mode during playback as was used during record-
ing of the tape.

When playback is begun, a maximum of sixteen tape
sides will be played back non-stop.

@ To change the direction of tape travel
During playback, press the START button. Each time
the button is pressed, the direction changes as follows:
<4 (Reverse) => (Forward) »
m@ To fast foward or rewind the tape
With the deck stopped, press the fast forward or re-
wind button.
When the » tape direction indicator is lighted, press
the »
button to fast forward the tape, and <4 to re-
wind the tape.
When the <4 tape direction indicator is lighted, press
the «<< button to fast forward the tape, and »® to re-
wind the tape.
B Dolby NR System
Dolby NR systems are designed to reduce the
amount of tape hiss, mainly in the treble compo-
nents. During recording, the high-pitched pianissimo
sounds which are most characteristic of audible
noise are boosted, and during playback, only these
boosted sections are attenuated, so that tape sound
is returned to normal. As a result, the noise is at-
tenuated by an amount equal to the boosting in the
treble range. The Dolby B-type NR system reduces
noise in the treble range, cutting tape hiss and ex-
panding the dynamic range.
