Running-in notes
To preserve the engine during the first 1500 km:
drive at varying road speeds and engine
R
speeds.
No faster than 140 km/h.
R
allow the engine to reach a maximum engine
R
speed of 4500 rpm only briefly.
drive the vehicle in drive program A.
R
Shift to the next higher gear at the very latest
R
when the needle reaches the last third before
the red area in the rev counter.
Do not shift down manually in order to brake.
R
Avoid overstraining the vehicle, e.g. driving at
R
full throttle.
Do not depress the accelerator pedal past the
R
pressure point (kickdown).
only increase the engine speed gradually and
R
accelerate the vehicle to full speed after
1500 km.
This also applies when the engine or parts of the
drivetrain have been replaced.
Please also observe the following running-in
notes:
In certain handling and driving safety systems,
R
the sensors adjust automatically while a cer-
tain distance is being driven after the vehicle
has been delivered or after repairs. Full sys-
tem effectiveness is only reached when this
teaching-in process has concluded.
Brake pads, brake disks and tyres that are
R
either new or have been replaced only achieve
optimum braking effect and grip after driving
several hundred kilometres. Compensate the
reduced braking effect by applying greater
force to the brake pedal.

Notes on engine output and engine torque
%
The actual (maximum) values that can be ach-
ieved for engine output and engine torque
may deviate from the certified values within
the permissible tolerances according to coun-
try-specific guidelines (basis: UN-ECE No. 85
or country-specific guidelines).
Variables that can influence this include, for
example:
Location above sea level
R
Fuel quality
R
Outside temperature
R
Operating temperature of the engine
R
The p engine operating temperature warning
lamp will remain lit until the engine has reached
its operating temperature.
Engine output and engine torque will be reduced.
Take this into account in your driving style.
When the p engine operating temperature
warning lamp goes out, full engine output and
engine torque will be available.
