& WARNING Risk of fire and injury from hot
cigarette lighter
You can suffer burns if you touch the hot heat-
ing element or the hot socket of the cigarette
lighter.
In addition, flammable materials can catch fire
if:
you drop the hot cigarette lighter.

children e.g. hold the hot cigarette lighter
R
to objects.
Always hold the cigarette lighter by the
#
knob.
Always make sure that the cigarette
#
lighter is out of the reach of children.
Never leave children unattended in the
#
vehicle.
& WARNING Risk of burns from the tailpipe
and tailpipe trims
The exhaust tailpipe and tailpipe trims can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of the vehicle, you could burn
yourself.
Always be particularly careful around the
#
tailpipe and the tailpipe trims and super-
vise children especially closely in this
area.
Allow vehicle parts to cool down before
#
touching them.
The handling characteristics of your vehicle are
dependent on the distribution of the load within
the vehicle. You should bear the following in mind
when loading the vehicle:
Do not exceed the permissible total mass or
R
the permissible axle loads of the vehicle
(including load and occupants).
Information can be found on the vehicle identi-
fication plate (
page 683).

Position heavy loads as far forwards as possi-
R
ble and as low down in the boot as possible.
The load must not protrude above the upper
R
edge of the seat backrests.

Always attach the partition net when trans-
R
porting objects in the load compartment.
Always place the load behind unoccupied
R
seats if possible.
Secure the load with sufficiently tear-resistant
R
and wear-resistant lashing material. Pad sharp
edges for protection.
Notes on driving with a roof load
Distribute the roof load and the load inside the
R
vehicle evenly, placing heavy objects at the
bottom.
Drive attentively, and avoid abrupt starts, brak-
R
ing and steering as well as rapid cornering.
When transporting roof loads and when the
R
vehicle is fully loaded or fully occupied, select
drive program A with emphasis on stability
(
page 236).
