g. Voltage Regulator
The voltage regulator is located on the left side of the machine behind the engine compartment.
The regulator is accessible for adjustment by opening the door on the left side. Depending on the
generator set specification, one of three voltage regulators will be used. Figures 12, 13 and 14 are
illustrations of these respective regulators.
Each of these voltage regulators is designed to provide 1% voltage regulation with 0.25-second
recovery time for all loads up to 100% of rated load on a three-phase, four-wire, 115/200-volt,
400-Hz, brushless generator. On the following page is information on particular regulators, their
part numbers, and generator sets covered by this manual on which they are used.
(1) Static (Magnetic Amplifier) Voltage Regulator (Fig. 12)
This voltage regulator (Hobart Part No. 430391C) is used on Hobart generator set
Specifications 6920-1 and 7002-1. This regulator provided field excitation power for the rotary
exciter and regulates generator output voltage by varying the exciter field power as required to
meet varying load conditions. Thus the generator output is held at a constant voltage. For
detailed infor- mation on this voltage regulator, refer to regulator manual TM-759 in Chapter 6.
(2) Solid State Voltage Regulator (Fig. 13)
This voltage regulator, (Hobart Part No. 489812), is used on Hobart generator set Specifi-
cations 6920-2 and 7002-2. With this regulator, voltage regulation is accomplished electroni-
cally. For detailed information on this voltage regulator, refer to regulator manual OM-2020 in
Chapter 6.
(3) Solid State Voltage Regulator with Current Limiting (Fig. 14)
This voltage regulator, (Hobart Part No. 180822) is used on Hobart generator set Specification
6912-1. It is identically to the solid state regulator referred to above (Part No. 489812), except
that this regulator has a current limiting function which is described as follows.
