Appliance Setup

A. Remove the Shipping Materials
WARNING! Risk of Fire! Close the ball valve before in-
stalling the splatter guard to prevent accidental lighting.
Remove the splatter guard before lighting the appliance.
Remove shipping materials from inside or underneath the
firebox.
• The splatter guard is a piece of corrugated material
used to protect the appliance during the installation
process before finishing work on the whole hearth is
complete. Splatter guards may be factory installed
or accompany the decorative barrier front of the ap-
pliance, depending on the fireplace model. Splatter
guards must be removed before appliance is fired.
B. Clean the Appliance
Clean/vacuum any sawdust that may have accumulated
inside the firebox or underneath in the control cavity.
C. Install the Refractory Kit (Required)
A refractory kit is required for use with this appliance. A
reflective black glass or brick refractory kit is available and
must be ordered separately at time of appliance purchase.
Install the refractory kit per the included instructions.

D. Install and Paint Teco-Sil
1. Remove Teco-Sil rock from its shipping location.
2. Bend the tabs on the left and right base pans slightly
down toward the ember tray. See figure 11.1
3. Install theTeco-Sil into the ember tray.
4. Fog the Teco-Sil to the desired look, using high
temperature black paint (Hearth & Home Technologies
part number TUP-GBK-12). See below for fogging
tips. Prior to painting, take precautions to prevent any
overspray from reaching the pilot assembly. Paint is
not included with the appliance. See Fig 11.2.
Fogging Tips
• Apply paint with the ember lights turned on. This will
help avoid over fogging or under fogging.
• Reduce the lighting in the room while applying the
paint.
• Fog the Teco-Sil to create a realistic coal bed appear-
ance.
• Allow the paint to dry/cure a minimum of 15 minutes.
• DO NOT allow paint or paint overspray on the pilot.
