How the Library Reports Problems

This library uses advanced problem detection, reporting, and notification technology
to alert customers of problems as soon as they occur. It performs numerous self-tests
to monitor the library's temperature, voltage and currents, and standard library
operations. These tests monitor the library when the library is powered ON, and
during normal operation when the library is idle.
If the test detects a problem, the library generates a service report that identifies
which component is likely causing the problem. The library's Error LED and Alarm
LED may turn ON to indicate an abnormal state. If the problem is not severe, the
Alarm LED turns ON and the library continues to provide full functionality to all
unaffected logical libraries. If the problem is not recoverable, the Error LED turns ON
and an error message is displayed on the Operator Panel.
When the library generates an alarm event or an error event, support staff can be
notified immediately by setting up e-mail event notification and/or SNMP trap
notification. The type of event that generates e-mail notification or SNMP trap
notification can be selected to limit the number of events to a specific priority level.

Library Error Messages and Resolutions

When a library event occurs, the event is logged into Flash memory on the Library
Control Blade. The library error log can be viewed on the Operator Panel by selecting
Service Mode → Error Log. The log lists all of the library error messages in the order
in which they were created starting with the most recent.
