CAUTION:
RSXs cannot be mounted where the antenna is inside a metal enclosure (a remote
mount antenna is needed).
The antenna location should be positioned to provide the best line of sight
communication.
All antennas must be oriented vertically. Vertical polarization maximizes the
transmission distance of each device.

WRS Location

For a WRS, select a location based on the standard rules for room temperature sensors. Keep in mind that
the WRS should generally be within 100 feet (30 m) of its associated RSX. Also, ensure there are no metal
objects directly between the WRS and the RSX. To avoid potential problems with interference, do not place
a WRS within 10 feet (3.1m) of other RF devices (such as microwave ovens and 802.11 access points).

Site Survey Guidelines

Typically, a WRS/RSX pair operate well if they are within 100 feet of each other, and neither are within
10 feet of other wireless interference sources (mainly 802.11 access points). However, if there is some
question about whether WRS/RSX pairs are suitable for a particular job (such as if there are intervening
physical building materials between the pair), the best way to determine this is to perform a simple site
survey as follows:
1. Make a note of the last 4 digits of RSX's EUID (the number on the sticker that starts with "000D6F").
2. Power up the RSX using a 9 Vdc battery (see Appendix B–Powering RSX Using 9 Vdc Battery for details
using a 9 Vdc battery for RSX power) and place in the physical location where it would be located.
3. Position the WRS in the physical location where it would be located and connect a computer cable
(540-143) from a computer to the RJ-11 port on the bottom of the WRS.
