QoS and DiffServ Support
This section lists the DiffServ-related software standards that are supported for the
ATM module.

Standards Supported for DiffServ

The Extreme Networks implementation of RED is based on the well-known paper
Random Early Detection Gateways for Congestion Avoidance, by Sally Floyd and Van
Jacobson. The Extreme Networks implementation of RED also complies with the
recommendations published in RFC 2309, Recommendations on Queue Management and
Congestion Avoidance in the Internet.
The Extreme implementation of DiffServ complies with the following standards:
• RFC 2474: Definition of the Differentiated Services Field (DS Field) in the IPv4 and IPv6
Headers
• RFC 2475: An Architecture for Differentiated Services
• RFC 2597: Assured Forwarding PHB Group
• RFC 2598: An Expedited Forwarding PHB
