Engaging reverse gear R
Depress the brake pedal and push the

DIRECT SELECT lever upwards past the first
point of resistance.
Engaging neutral N
Depress the brake pedal and push the
#
DIRECT SELECT lever up or down to the first
point of resistance.
Subsequently releasing the brake pedal will
allow you to move the vehicle freely, e.g. to push
it or tow it away.
If you want the transmission to remain in
neutral N even if the ignition is switched off:
start the vehicle.

depress the brake pedal and engage neutral
#
i.
release the brake pedal.
#
switch the ignition off.
#
% if you then exit the vehicle leaving the key in
the vehicle, the transmission remains in neu‐
tral i.
Engaging park position P
Observe the notes on parking the vehicle
#
( page 181).

Depress the brake pedal until the vehicle
#
comes to a standstill.
When the vehicle is stationary, press button
#
j.
Park position is only engaged when the
transmission position display j is shown in
the driver display. If no transmission position
display j appears, secure the vehicle to
prevent it from rolling away.
Park position j is engaged automatically if one
of the following conditions is met:
You switch the vehicle off with the transmis‐
R
sion in position h or k.
You open the driver's door when the vehicle
R
is at a standstill or when driving at a very low
speed and the transmission is in position h
or k.
% To manoeuvre with an open driver's door,
open the driver's door while stationary and
engage transmission position h or k
again.

If you have engaged park position j or
switched off the drive system and no trans‐
mission position display is displayed, secure
the vehicle from rolling away ( page 186).
