When a document is scanned from the document glass, the scan cables that drive the full rate
and half rate carriages maintain a fixed length optical path between the document and CCD.
This is important for accurate size reproduction and focus.
The scan speed varies according to the reduction or enlargement ratio that has been selected.
A slow scan produces an enlarged image and a fast scan produces a small image. Electronic
processing is used to change the image size in the front- to-back (fast scan) direction when
reduction or enlargement is selected. Refer to
