Removing tape cartridges manually

If you have to remove cartridges from the autoloader when power is unavailable,
either due to a general power failure or a failure of the autoloader power supply,
you can operate the cartridge access door manually. The autoloader has a small
hole in the front bezel that provides access to a gear shaft attached to the cartridge
access door. Using a small Phillips screwdriver, you can turn the gear shaft to open
the cartridge access door.
If a cartridge is loaded in the tape drive when power to the autoloader fails and
must remove that cartridge, you must remove the tape drive from the autoloader.
DANGER
For security, you can block access to the gear shaft from the hole in the front of the
faceplate. A screw that is accessible from the hole in the top of the faceplate (see
Figure 19) can be lowered in front of the gear shaft. To lower this screw, use a
small Phillips screwdriver to turn the screw clockwise until it blocks access to the
gear shaft.
To remove cartridges from the autoloader without power, complete the following
steps:
__ 1. Carefully insert a small Phillips screwdriver into the access hole (see

__ 4. When the door is fully open, you can remove cartridges by hand from the

rotate the cartridge carousel with your fingers.
Reach inside the door and gently rotate the carousel toward the left or right
to access tapes in the remaining cells. If the carousel binds or will not move
freely, a cartridge might be incorrectly seated in one of the cells. An
incorrectly seated cartridge can be resolved only by a service call or a
replacement unit.
