Figure 84. Two pairs of FC 5805 or FC 5903 adapters to one 5887 enclosure via a mode 2 connection
SAS adapter (FC 5913 and FC ESA3) to the 5887
There are four supported configurations to connect the FC 5913 and FC ESA3 adapter to a 5887.
Notes:
1. Maximum of 24 SSDs for a pair of FC 5913s or FC ESA3s.
2. Allowed to have 24 SSDs in a single enclosure or split between two enclosures.
3. No cascading of 5887 enclosures.
4. In mode 2, the 5887 appears as two logical enclosures.
5. The long end (0.5 m) of the YO cable must be connected to the left side of the enclosure (as viewed
from the rear). The short end (0.25 m) of the YO cable must be connected to the right side of the
enclosure (as viewed from the rear).
6. Dual initiator configurations require an AA cable to connect the top port (T3) of each adapter in the
pair with each other, except for configurations with three 5887 enclosures.
The following list describes the supported configurations:
1. Dual FC 5913 or FC ESA3 adapters to one 5887 enclosure via a mode 1 connection.
v 5887 enclosures with 1 - 24 HDDs or SSDs.
v Connection using SAS 6x YO cables to connect to the 5887 enclosure (both cables must be attached
to the same port on each adapter).
v SAS 6x AA cable is required for connecting the pair of FC 5913 or FC ESA3 adapters.
2. Dual FC 5913 or FC ESA3 adapters to two 5887 enclosures via a mode 1 connection.
v 5887 enclosures with either a maximum of 48 HDDs or 24 SSDs only (cannot have a mix of HDDs
and SSDs in the same enclosure).
v Connection using SAS 6x YO cables to connect to the 5887 enclosures.
v SAS 6x AA cable is required for connecting the pair of FC 5913 or FC ESA3 adapters.
