  • Page 8 Electrical voltage and current from power, telephone, and communication cables are hazardous. To avoid a shock hazard: v Connect power to this unit only with the IBM provided power cord. Do not use the IBM provided power cord for any other product.
  • Page 9 Observe the following precautions when working on or around your IT rack system: v Heavy equipment–personal injury or equipment damage might result if mishandled. v Always lower the leveling pads on the rack cabinet. v Always install stabilizer brackets on the rack cabinet. v To avoid hazardous conditions due to uneven mechanical loading, always install the heaviest devices in the bottom of the rack cabinet.
  • Page 10 CAUTION: Removing components from the upper positions in the rack cabinet improves rack stability during relocation. Follow these general guidelines whenever you relocate a populated rack cabinet within a room or building: v Reduce the weight of the rack cabinet by removing equipment starting at the top of the rack cabinet.
  • Page 11 (L003) All lasers are certified in the U.S. to conform to the requirements of DHHS 21 CFR Subchapter J for class 1 laser products. Outside the U.S., they are certified to be in compliance with IEC 60825 as a class 1 laser product.

SAS architecture Serial-attached SCSI (SAS) architecture describes a serial device interconnection and transportation protocol that defines the rules for information exchange between devices.

Note: All SAS subsystem features for 8202-E4C, 8202-E4D, 8205-E6C, or 8205-E6D systems share the same integrated base system board (custom card identification numbers (CCIN) 2B2C or 2B4A for the two-socket model and 2B2D or 2B4B for the one-socket model).

    This configuration uses the base backplane. The following rules apply to this configuration: v This feature is not available with the IBM i operating system. v The base backplane uses six drives and cannot function in dual-storage I/O-adapter (IOA) mode or in high-availability (HA) RAID mode.

    v Solid-state drives (SSDs) and hard disk drives (HDDs) can be mixed in any combination within the internal disk enclosure. Example: Base backplane This example shows a base backplane configuration on the 8202-E4C, 8202-E4D, 8205-E6C, or 8205-E6D systems. Figure 4. Disk bays controlled by base backplane The following table lists the details of the base backplane configuration on the 8202-E4C, 8202-E4D, 8205-E6C, or 8205-E6D systems.
  • Page 20 v Each SAS adapter can control only three of the disk drives and cannot function in dual-storage I/O adapter (IOA) mode or in high availability (HA) RAID mode. One SAS adapter (RAID 10 storage controller) connects to D1, D2, and D3. The other SAS adapter (Base storage controller) connects to D4, D5, and D6.

    Battery pack can be safely replaced on the Battery Information panel (for Linux and ® IBM i systems) or COMMAND STATUS panel (for AIX systems). Before servicing any features, review the I/O configurations for each logical partition on your system. It is important to understand the differences between the various configurations and the resulting service considerations.
