Outgoing Message (OGM)
Your SF 2200 can record and play a voice message to instruct callers from manual fax machines to press
S TA RT and hang up. The OGM will prevent voice callers or " wrong numbers" from immediately
hearing a shrill fax tone when your SF 2200 answers automatically.
As you read about receiving modes (right), you will learn how your OGM affects the operation of your
SF 2200 in day-to-day use. After reading about modes. you can decide whether you want to use an
OGM.
If you decide to record an OGM, follow the instructions on page 28.
Changing the Number of Rings
You can use the Control Panel to change the number of rings (from 1 to 7 ) your SF 2200 waits before
picking up in FAX, TEL/FAX and ANS/FAX modes (page 24). To find out what your current settings
are, print the Options List (see page 33).
Receiving in FAX Mode
To select FAX mode (available only if you have not recorded an OGM), press RCV. MODE until the light
next to the key is on and the word FAX appears in the Window.
• When a call is received from a manual fax machine, the SF 2200 answers after the number of rings set
in the User Options (page 24) and sounds a fax tone to the caller. The caller hears the tone, and should
know to press his START key. The SF 2200 receives the fax.
• When a call is received from an automatic fax machine, the SF 2200 automatically detects the sending
fax machine and receives the fax.
• If you pick up the handset before the SF 2200 answers. the SF 2200 switches to TEL mode.
NOTE :
fail to detect it and may not receive the fax because of line instability.
Receiving in TEL/FAX Mode
To select TEL/FAX mode (available only if you have not recorded an OGM), press RCV. MODE until the
light next to the key is on and the word TEL/FAX appears in the Window.
• When a call is received from a manual fax machine, your OGM instructs the caller to press his START
key. When he does, the SF 2200receives fax.
• When a call is received from an automatic fax machine, the SF 2200 does not play the OGM, and
automatically detects the sending fax machine and receives the fax.
• If you pick up the handset before the SF 2200 answers. the SF 2200 switches to TEL mode.
