Family of equipment and software configurations that are designed to support a
particular Application.
Plesiochronous Network
A network that contains multiple subnetworks, each of which is internally synchronous
and operates at the same nominal frequency, but the timing of any of the subnetworks
may be slightly different at any particular instant.
PLL
Phase Lock Loop
PM
Performance Monitoring - Measures the quality of service and identifies degrading or
marginally operating systems (before an alarm is generated).
PMA
Performance Monitoring Application
Pointer
An indicator whose value defines the frame offset of a virtual container with respect to
the frame reference of the transport entity on which the Virtual Container is supported.

Primary OMS
An OMS that usually manages a network element. If the primary OMS fails,
management of the network element is passed over to the secondary OMS. A network
element should be provisioned normally on the primary OMS and then be configured for
use on the secondary OMS. See also Geographic Redundancy.
Primary Reference Clock (PRC)
The main timing clock reference in SDH equipment.
