Before You Begin

This chapter tells you what you need to know before you install your new Siemens Hicom Office
PhoneMail system. It introduces you to:
Basic Office PhoneMail system features and capacities.
Expanded Office PhoneMail system capacities.
3.1 Basic Office PhoneMail System Capacities
Office PhoneMail connects to your Hicom and supports the following:
67 mailboxes
Office PhoneMail provides 67mailboxes, as follows:
– 40 subscriber mailboxes
A subscriber is an employee with an individual phone extension. A subscriber's mail-
box number is the same as the subscriber's extension number, and may be two to five
digits long.
– 10 information mailboxes
An information mailbox does not take messages, but simply plays recorded informa-
tional messages to callers (such as your normal operating hours, directions to your fa-
cility, and so on). An information mailbox number may be any unused number two to
five digits in length whose first two, three, four, or five digits do not match an entire ex-
isting extension or mailbox number (for example, "501" is not a valid information mail-
box number if "50" is an existing extension or mailbox number; similarly, "60127" is not
valid if "6012" is an existing extension or mailbox number).
– 16 guest mailboxes
A guest is an Office PhoneMail system user without an individual telephone extension.
A guest mailbox number may be any unused number two to five digits in length whose
first two, three, four, or five digits do not match an entire existing extension or mailbox
number (for example, "501" is not a valid guest mailbox number if "50" is an existing
extension or mailbox number; similarly, "60127" is not valid if "6012" is an existing ex-
tension or mailbox number).
– 1 general delivery mailbox (mailbox number is 9 or 0, depending on the Country Code)
The general delivery mailbox provides general call coverage for your business.
