For the first two, use these controls:
(Up): Navigate up in a navigable list on the main screen.
(Down) Navigate down in a navigable list on the main screen.
(Select) Select the indicated item in the list.
Creating highlights and notes uses the D-pad control, which is explained below.

Data Entry

When you need to enter data, for example to register your nook or search, your nook
displays a data entry form on the main screen and a keyboard on the touch screen.
Use the keyboard to type in the form, and to submit what you typed. Here is some
information about navigation in forms. More information about the keyboard is given below.
Form Navigation
(Right Arrow): Moves the cursor to the right in a text entry box on a form
(Left Arrow): Moves the cursor to the left in a text entry box on a form
<x
(Backspace): Deletes the character in front of the cursor
(Up Arrow): Moves the cursor from one line of a multi-line form to the line above
(Down Arrow): Moves the cursor from one line of a multi-line form to the line
below
Cancel Cancels data entry and returns you to the context in which data entry was begun
Submit Submits the entered data
Multi-page Form
Navigation in a multi-page form is the same as for a single-page, multi-line form. Move between
pages using > and < keys. Complete all pages of the form before submitting it, or an error will
result. Submit the form by tapping the Submit key.
