Configuring the default gateway

Use this procedure to configure the IP default gateway address for a switch, to change the IP default
gateway address to the default address, or to clear the IP default gateway address.
Important:
When you change the IP gateway address, you can lose connection to Telnet and the Web. You
also can disable any new Telnet connection required to connect to the serial Console port to
configure a new IP Gateway address.
Procedure
1. Enter Global Configuration mode:
enable
configure terminal
2. At the command prompt, enter the following command:
[no] [default] ip default-gateway <A.B.C.D>

The following table describes the parameters for the ip default-gateway command.

Enter the IP address of the default IP gateway in the
format XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX.
DEFAULT: 0.0.0.0.
Important:
When you change the IP gateway, you can lose
connection to Telnet and the Web. You can also
disable any new Telnet connection required to
connect to the serial Console port to configure a
new IP Gateway address.
Clears the IP address of the default IP gateway. Sets
the IP default gateway address to zeros (0).
Sets the IP default gateway address to all zeros
(0.0.0.0).
