Configuring the IP address

Use this procedure to automatically obtain an in-band management IP address, subnet mask and
default gateway on the switch or stack.
About this task
When you use DHCP, the switch or stack can also obtain up to three DNS server IP addresses.
Procedure
1. Enter Global Configuration mode:
enable
configure terminal
2. At the command prompt, enter the following command:
ip address source {bootp-always | bootp-last-address | bootp-when-
needed | configured-address | dhcp-always | dhcp-last-address |
dhcp-when-needed}

Variable definitions

The following table describes the parameters for the ip address sourcecommand.

Value
Specifies whether to set the IP address for the
switch, the stack, or another unit in a stack.
Sets the IP subnet mask.
Sets the IP address of the default gateway.
Value
Always use the BootP server.
Use the last BootP server.
Use the BootP server when needed.
DEFAULT: bootp-when-needed
Use the manually configured IP configuration.
Always use the DHCP server.
Use the last DHCP server.
Use DHCP client when needed.
