diagnosis can be completed,
the motorcycle must be
driven at a speed of at least 3
mph (5 km/h).

The DTC symbol is no longer
displayed.
If an DTC error is displayed after
the DTC self-diagnosis is com-
pleted:
It remains possible to continue
riding. It must be noted that
the DTC function is not avail-
able at all or is restricted.
Have the malfunction corrected
as soon as possible at an
authorized service facility,
preferably an authorized
BMW Motorrad Dealer.

Breaking in

Engine
In the period preceding the
initial inspection attempt to
change rpm and engine load as
frequently as possible, avoiding
extended periods at constant
rpm.
Choose curvy, slightly hilly sec-
tions of road if possible.
Observe the engine run-in
speeds.

<7000 min -1 (Odometer read-
ing 0...186 miles (0...300 km))
<9000 min -1 (Odometer
reading 186...621 miles
(300...1000 km))
no full throttle (Odometer

Have first run-in check con-
ducted after 300 ­750 mls
(500 ­1,200 km).
Brake pads
New brake pads must be run in
before they achieve their opti-
mum friction force. This initial
reduction in braking efficiency
can be compensated for by ex-
erting greater pressure on the
brake levers.
