STARTING THE ENGINE
Place the se

the " N" or " P"

on.

COLD ENGINE
-
Position

e automatic choke by depressi ng the
acce
lerator pedal
slowly to the
floor
and
then releasing
it.
Turn
t he
igni tion
key to
the
"start" position
un til
the
eng in
e starts
and
then
release it.
A llow
the
engine to operate freely for a few seconds
then d ep
ress
t he
accel erator pedal sligh
tly
and
release,
to reduce engine
speed
.
Th
e
eng ine wi
ll idl
e
faster than
norma
l unt
il
it
wa rms up and the
choke is
full
y ope n.
NOTE: If
air temperature is below
+10
°F,
or the vehicle
has been
idle
for several days. depress accelerator two
or three times before starting
.
WARM
ENGINE
- Depress the acce lerator
pedal
half
way down
an
d
hold
in this position.
CAUTION: Do not
"pump" accelerator pedal.
Turn

ignitio
n
key to the
" start"
position
unti
l
the
engine
starts,
and
then re lease it.
Permit the engin
e to ope rate freely momenta
ri
ly. at slight ly faste
r
t han id le speed,
then
release
t
he ped
al.
CAUTION
:
If
the engine stalls or falters in starting, wait
3
or 4 seco
n
ds
before re-engaging
starter.
This
will pre-
vent poss
ibl
e
damage
to the starter or engine.
