NOTE: Because vacuum
power
operates the
locks,
it is
necessary to hold the
lock
control
knob
until vacuum has
been transmitted to and actuates each door
lock.
AUTOMATIC HEADLAMP DIMMER
The optiona
l
Automatic
Head
lamp
Dimmer
automatically
gives
you
the
proper
headlamp beam
at
the proper time
-
the
high beam when
on·com
ing
traffic
permits,
and
the low beam when traffic
conditions
demand.
The Phototube Sensor Unit
is
located
on top of
the
left
front
fender.
To
use
the
automatic
feature, turn the
head
lights on
.
Dep
ress
th
e
foot
switc
h part
way.
If
the
high
beam (bright
lights)
come
on and
the high
beam indicator light
is
on, the unit is
in the
automatic position.
Release
the
foot switch.
If
the
high
beam
(all
four headlights)
does not come on, com:'
pletely depress and release
the
foot switch to
put the unit in
the
automatic
position
.
In the automatic position,
your
lights wi
ll
switch to the
low beam
(two head lights)
at
the
proper
distance from
an approaching
car. The
automatic dimmer will restrict your
lights
to
low
beam
in
adequately
lighted areas and will switch
to
high beam
when ever driving
conditions
necessitate
brighter
headlights.
To
obtain
momentary high
beam
for
signaling on· coming traffic
(when using the
automatic control), depress
the foot
sw
itch part
way
.
This
beam
of
bright
light
will be maintained as
long
as
t
he
switch is
held in this position.
To return
to automatic control,
release
the foot
switch.
The
low
beam
can
be
locked in by
completely depressing
and
releasing
the foot
switch (non·automatic
position).
