w hen the engine is coo l. Mai nt ain the coola nt level to t he "co ld f ill"
ma rk w hich is located below the fifl cap on th e eng ine side of the
radiator. Do not fill above t his level.
WARNING: Use extreme care when removing the radiator
cap if the coolant is overheated; always turn the cap
slowly to the partially open stop to relieve internal pres·
sure before removing the cap. It is advisable to cover the
cap with a cloth before turning it. If possible. avoid
removing the radiator cap until the engine has cooled
sufficiently to relieve the pressure. If you have to add
coolant more than once a month or if you have to add
more than a quart at a time. have your dealer check the
cooling system for leaks.

the atmo sphere. This feature, in ord er to fu nction prope rly, mu st be
servi ced at regul ar intervals. See the Schedul ed M aintena nce Se rvices
Chart in the ba ck of this manual for t he maintenance requirements.
NOTE: Failure to clean and maintain the crankcase venti·
lation system according to the recommended procedures
and / or the use of low quality oil will result in a serious
accumulation of sludge within the engine which is likely
to result i n premature eng in e wear.
EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL
SYSTEM
A ll Li ncoln Conti nental s are equi pped wi th an exhaust emissio n contro l
system that reduces th e emission of certa in unbu rned substances
from the engin e. In ord er for this system to function as designed and
thus meet the design requ irements. the engine must be serv iced at
