Special features with Super Audio CD (SACD)

There are three types of SACD disc: Single Layer, Dual Layer and Hybrid. The
Hybrid type contains a standard audio CD layer as well as a Super Audio CD.
All SACDs should contain a pure stereo soundtrack; an area containing multi-
channel recordings may also be present. However, a small number of SACDs
are pure multi-channel discs, i.e. without a stereo track.
The PDP 3000 HV features a Downmix function whose purpose is to mix down
multi-channel SACD recordings to a normal two-channel stereo format. The
information contained in the centre channel and the rear sound channels is
mixed into the front left and front right channels, i.e. no musical information is
lost.
This means that the PDP 3000 HV is capable of playing multi-channel
soundtracks on hybrid SACDs as well as pure multi-channel SACDs.
Switching between the CD and SACD layers on hybrid SACDs
 Stop playback.
 With the disc stopped, hold the source select switch pressed in until the
screen displays the message "Reading".
 Playback can be started by pressing the  button on the remote control
handset once the CD or SACD layer has been read.

Note:
It is not possible to switch between the CD and SACD layers when playback is
in progress; you must stop the disc before switching layers.
The PDP 3000 HV stores the layer (CD or SACD) you last played. However,
when the machine is switched off and then on again, it always defaults to
reading the SACD stereo track due to its inherently higher quality.
Switching between the stereo and multi-channel tracks on SACDs
 If the disc is a hybrid SACD, you must first switch to the SACD layer (see
above).
 Playback is started by pressing the  button once the SACD layer has
been read.
 To change the soundtrack with playback in progress, hold the source select
switch pressed in.
 Disc: SA-CD (2-CH) indicates that the stereo track of an SACD has been
read.
 Disc: SA-CD (M-CH) indicates that the multi-channel track of an SACD has
been read.
 Disc: CD indicates that a normal audio CD or the CD layer of a hybrid SACD
has been read.
