Throttle Cable

Adjustment
See Figures 3-3 through 3-6.
1. Park the mower safely. (See "Park Mower Safely" on
page 1-6.)
2. Remove instrument panel. (See "Instrument Panel"
on page 4-103.)

3. Remove three screws (1), lock washers (2), and flat
washers (3)
4. Remove seal bracket (6).
5. Loosen screw (5) and move console wall (4) inward
to allow access to throttle cable and control lever.

6. Place throttle lever (7) in slow idle position and check
throttle cable (12) for wear.

7. Loosen nuts (11) and position throttle cable (12) in
clamp (10) so that there is approximately 0.040 in. (1
mm) of clearance between the top of the throttle
cable slot (8) and the throttle handle stud (9).
8. Tighten nuts (11).

9. Check throttle for ease of movement and adjust
throttle tension with lock nuts (13 and 14).
10. Move throttle lever to slow idle position.

11. Loosen nuts (16) and position throttle cable (15) in
clamp (20) so that governor throttle lever (18)
contacts the idle screw (17). Tighten nuts (16).
12. Push throttle lever to full open position and check to
see that governor throttle lever (18) contacts the
high- speed stop (19).
13. Verify the engine rpm (idle 1300 rpm and high speed
2800 ± 50 rpm) at engine crankshaft using a photo
tach.
14. Install the seal bracket, console wall, and instrument
panel by reversing the order of removal.
