Stroke rate preselection (GST 54 E)
The required stroke rate can be preselected (also
during operation) using the thumbwheel 2 .
1 – 2 = low stroke rate
3 – 4 = medium stroke rat
5 – 6 = high stroke rate
The required stroke rate is dependent on the ma-
terial and the working conditions and can be de-
termined by a practical trial.
After working for longer periods at low stroke rate
allow the machine to cool down by running it at
maximum stroke rate and no-load for approx.
3 minutes.

Contact Protector

The contact protector 10 attached to the machine
prevents unintentional contact with the saw blade
while working.
Adjusting the Cutting Angle
(see figure
)
B B
After loosening the screw 15 and slightly pushing
it forward in the direction of the saw blade, the
foot plate 6 can be swung to the right or left to a
maximum of 45°.
After an approximate setting, tighten the
screw 15 so that the base plate 6 can barely be
adjusted.
Set the cutting angle using scale 13.
Afterwards, retighten the screw 15.
To achieve precise cutting angles, the base
plate 6 is fitted with a locking device at 0° and 45°
(left and right). For this, however, the base plate
must be pushed back (towards the motor) to the
stop, so that the notch in the base plate engages
in the positioning pin 14.
If other cutting angles are required, these should
be set exactly with the help of a commercially
available protractor 16, for example.
When returning the base plate to the 0° (normal)
position, press the rear of the base plate against
the positioning pin 14 until it can be felt to en-
gage.
Push the guide roller to the front against the back
of the saw blade and tighten screw 15 again.

Moving the Base Plate
(see figure
C
For sawing close to edges, the base plate can be
moved to the rear:
Completely unscrew the screw 15 with an Allen
key.
Lift off the base plate and offset it to the rear in
such a manner that the front screw can be
screwed into the rear thread (the rear screw is not
required for this).
Press the rear of the base plate against the posi-
tioning pin 14 until it can be felt to engage.
Push the guide roller to the front against the back
of the saw blade and tighten screw 15 again.
Once the base plate has been moved, only
the 0° (normal) position can be used.
The circle cutter/parallel guide 19 as
well as the splintering protector 18 can-
not be used in this position.
Splintering Protector
(see figure
D
The splintering protector 18 prevents the splinter-
ing of the surface when sawing in wooden mate-
rials.
Press the splintering protector into the base plate
from below 6.
The splintering protector cannot be used
for certain types of saw blade (e. g., set
saw blades).

Practical Tips

Circle Cutter / Parallel Guide
(Optional Extra – see figure
With the combined circle cutter/parallel guide 19
circular cutouts or parallel cuts in materials of up
to 30 mm thickness can be made.
For tight curves, it is best to use a narrow saw
blade.
