VIA 693 Socket 370 AT Mainboard

3. HARDWARE SETUP

Before you can start to install this mainboard, some hardware settings is required
to make sure it will work perfectly with the component which you are going to
install in your PC system. To configure this mainboard is a simple task, only a few
jumpers, connectors, cables and sockets need to be selected and configured.
(please refer to section 1.2 "mainboard layout" for the component location).

3.1 INSTALLATION OF CPU

When you have installed CPU onto the mainboard, this mainboard will detect the
CPU type and decide the proper CPU voltage as well as the front side bus frequency
(FSB clock) automatically. So you do not have to make any jumper or switch setting
to select the CPU type. All you have to do is plug the CPU onto the mainboard and
use the default BIOS setting to decide the FSB clock. If you want to select different
FSB clock for the CPU, you can use the BIOS setup program to make other
selection. The socket where we are going to install the CPU is a 370-pin socket type
connector and we call it the SOCKET 370 as shown in the following picture:
Note: Please make sure to attach a CPU cooling fan to the CPU
for Celeron CPU
to reduce the CPU temperature. Without the cooling fan,
the CPU can be damaged because of high temperature.
