Applications (cont’d) Surround Sound Audio/Composite Video Use an ELAN Z•880 to distribute Digital Audio signals to remotely located A/V Receivers in various locations throughout the house. This application uses an ELAN System12 to distribute Composite Video to TVs and VIA! Touch Panels.

RS-232 Control Connections The VIA!dvdj can be controlled using RS-232 commands from a VIA! Touch Panel using an ELAN VIA!SC4 or VIA!2SS1. Connect a DB-9 Serial Cable between the SC4/SS1’s COM3 or COM4 port and the VIA!dvdj’s CONTROLLER Port as shown below.
Touch Panels around the home. This can be as simple as a direct connection from the VIA!dvdj to a VIA! Touch Panel, or as sophisticated as interconnecting multiple touch panels and TVs using a video distribution system such as ELAN’s Z•880 Video Controller or System12 (S12) Multi-Room A/V Controller.
The VIA!dvdj can control up to four DVD Multi-Disc Changers. At the time this man- ual was produced, it controls Sony model DVP-CX777ES which is available through typical Sony channels, or directly from ELAN. DVD changer has Composite Video, S-Video, and Component Video outputs. These outputs can be connected to a Video Switcher (ELAN Z•880 or S12, for example), an A/V Receiver, an RF Modulator (ELAN MOD4000), or directly to a TV or Video Monitor.

Video Input, it is possible to connect the Component Video Outputs of that Changer directly to the Component Video Inputs of the TV/monitor as shown below. In an ELAN Multi-Room system, Component Video Outputs can be routed using an ELAN System12 (S12).

Audio is sent from each DVD Changer that is controlled by the VIA!dvdj to: • A Stand-Alone A/V Receiver (Home Theater) • An ELAN Multi-Room Controller (S12, S6, or Z•630) Configuration will vary somewhat depending on the number of Changers and the audio system’s capabilities (Surround Sound, Multi-Zone, etc.).

Use RCA audio cables to connect the Analog Audio Output of each DVD Changer to a separate Source Audio Input of an ELAN Multi-Room Controller. Each time a dif- ferent Changer is accessed, the appropriate Audio Input is automatically selected from a VIA! Touch Panel.

The VIA!dvdj must access the Internet in order to obtain Title information, Cover Art, etc. Both a Dial-Up Modem port and an Ethernet port are provided for this pur- pose. Whenever possible, ELAN recommends connecting to a high-speed Internet connection through the Ethernet port.

Select Cover Art Image and click on Edit. This will bring up a list of all of the cover art images currently stored on the ViA! dvdj, along with all of the avail- able generic cover art images. To add an image currently stored on your PC's hard drive, click on Add.
