BEFORE FIRST USE

Before using for the first time, remove all packaging and clean the slow cooker to remove
any dust, manufacturing residues, etc. (see 'Care & Maintenance' for cleaning Instructions)
It is necessary to operate the slow cooker one time before placing food in the ceramic bowl.
Pour 4 cups of water into the ceramic bowl and place the bowl inside the slow cooker.
Cover with the glass lid.
1. Connect the power cord to the wall power socket (and switch on if it is switchable).
2. The display will illuminate showing the clock set to 06:00 and the HIGH icon will be lit.
3. Press the ON/OFF button; the COOK LED and COOK icon on the LCD will illuminate.
4. Allow the slow cooker to heat for approximately 30 - 40 minutes.
5. When the 30-40 minutes has elapsed, press the ON/OFF button to turn the slow
cooker Off. The red LED will go Off, the green LED and the LCD will remain illuminated,
indicating the cooker is still connected to the wall power socket.
6. Allow the slow cooker to cool for 20 minutes or until the ceramic bowl is cool enough
to handle.
7. Carefully remove the ceramic bowl from the slow cooker and discard the water.
8. Rinse the ceramic bowl, dry thoroughly and replace it in the slow cooker.
PREPARATION
Some recipes call for meat to be browned and/or vegetables to be sautéed. Do this in a
pan on the stove, not in the ceramic bowl.
Thaw frozen food completely before adding to the ceramic bowl.
CAUTION: Do not use the ceramic bowl for cooking anywhere other than inside
the slow cooker.
Soak dried peas and beans for 8 hours (or overnight) to soften them before cooking.
WARNING
Dried beans (e.g. red kidney beans) must be boiled for at least 10 minutes before being
added to the slow cooker. They're poisonous if eaten raw or undercooked.
Ingredients prepared beforehand (e.g. the night before) must be stored in the fridge
between preparation and placing in the slow cooker. Do not put the slow cooker or the
ceramic bowl into the fridge.
Root vegetables (potatoes, carrots, onions, etc.) take much longer to cook than meat.
Cut them to approximately 5mm (quarter inch) thick slices, sticks or dice. If possible,
sauté them gently for 2-3 minutes before adding to the ceramic bowl.
When cooking with rice, use at least 150ml of cooking liquid for each 100g of rice.
Pasta isn't suitable for slow cooking. If your recipe needs pasta, stir it in 30-40 minutes
before the end of the cooking time.
Slow cooking retains more of the juices than normal cooking. This tends to increase the
volume of cooking liquid and thin sauces or gravy.
