8. Fax
8.1 Availability of the fax feature
Important:
R The fax feature may not be available for your unit. See "y List of available features and equipment" on
page 3 whether your unit has the feature.
8.2 Preparation for sending a fax
We recommend programming the following so that they appear on the top of each page sent.
– Date and time (feature #101)
– Your logo (feature #102)
– Fax number (feature #103)
8.3 Basic procedure for sending a fax
Important:
R Set the unit to the fax mode.

Set the original.

If necessary, change the resolution and contrast according to the type of document.

Dial the fax number or select the destination from stored items.

Start the fax transmission.
When using the scanner glass, press Mx/STARTN to scan the 1st page.
R To scan the next page, place the document and press MOK/SETN. Repeat this until all the documents are
scanned, then press Mx/STARTN.
When using the automatic document feeder (y), press Mx/STARTN.
Note:
R To change the contrast/resolution setting, see the following.

R If the line is busy or if there is no answer, the unit will automatically redial the number 2 or more times in the
following functions.
– Sending a fax
– Broadcast transmission (y)
– Redialling using MT/REDIALN
*1 For broadcast transmission, the line will be skipped and redialled later.
8.3.1 Various settings for sending faxes
To select the contrast
Adjust this setting depending on the darkness or lightness of the document. 5 levels (low to high) are available.
1. Md/QUALITYN (repeatedly): "CONTRAST"
2. MCDN: Change the contrast. A MOK/SETN
To select the resolution
1. Md/QUALITYN (repeatedly): "RESOLUTION"
2. MCDN: Change the resolution. A MOK/SETN
Note:
R If you select "FINE", "SUPER FINE" or "PHOTO" resolution, transmission time will increase.
8.3.2 Selecting the destination from stored items
Store the desired names and telephone numbers into the address book beforehand (page 47).
