Spiral spring installation

1. Install:
9 Spiral spring
(onto the starter case)

When installing the spiral spring onto the
starter case, use care so that the spiral
spring does not pop out. To help the
spring stay compressed, wind it from the
outside, one turn each time.
NOTE:
9 Set the drive pawl spring and pass its end
through the coil of the pawl spring.
9 Align the slit with the rope guide and
pass the rope through the slit. Lift up the
rope and turn it counterclockwise by four
turns by holding the sheave drum. Wind
the rope clockwise by removing it from
the slit and returning the sheave drum.

Recoil starter checking

1 Check:
9 Starter operation
Rough operation → Repair.
NOTE:
9 When checking the manual starter only,
move out the start-in-gear protection lock.
9 Adjust the start-in-gear protection wire,
before installing the manual starter ass'y
to the power unit. Refer to "CONTROL
SYSTEM" in chapter 3.
