Before inspection and adjustment
set

Engine coolant temperature:

Lamps. electric cooling fan and all
accessories:
OFF

Transmission:
Neutral
.
Steering wheel: Straight forward position
Insert
the paper clip into the connector of pin
1 as shown
on the
left.
Connect a primary-voltage-detection type of tachometer to
the paper
clip.
NOTE
Do not
use
the
Multi-use tester
(MUT).
lf
tested
with the
MUT connected
to
the
diagnosis con-
nector. the ignition timing will not
be
the basic
timing
but
be ordinary timing.
Set
the timing
light.
Start the engine and run at
idle.
Verify that the engine revolution speed approximates
850
r/min.
NOTE
The engine speed indicated is a second of actual speed.
tn
other words, the
reading
of
the
tachometer times
2
is
actual
speed.
Turn the ignition switch
to
OFF.
Remove the waterproof connector from
the ionition timi
adjustment connector.
tgnttton timing
Use a
jumper wire
to
earth the ignition timing adjustment
terminal.
NOTE
Earthing this terminal sets the engine to the basic ignition
timing.
(10)Start
the engine and run at
idle.
(11)check
that
basic ignition timing is within the
standard
value.
Standard value: 5o BTDC

there is a deviation from the
standard value. roosen the
holding nut of the crank angle
sensor. and then rotate the
crank angle sensor to
adjust.
NOTE
The ignition timing
is
advanced
sensor itself is
turned
clockwise
turned
anticlockwise.
(13)After adjustment.
tighten the
nut.
Gaution
Be carcfuh when tightening the nut
that the crank angle
sensor does
not
morre.
(14)Sto.p
the.engine, remove the jumper wire from the ignition
timing adjustment connector. and return the conneötor to
its original condition.
(15)Start
the engine and
check
that ignition timing is at
the
standard
valüe.
