7. Management

This section describes the operation and maintenance of the Disk Expansion Unit.

Daily maintenance

Describes the items which must be checked on a daily basis, the file management, and
the cleaning methods.
Troubleshooting
Refer to this section if a failure occurs. It describes possible causes for troubles, ways to
check them, and some corrective actions.
Relocation and storage
Describes the procedures and cautions applying to the relocation and storage of the Disk
Expansion Unit.
DAILY MAINTENANCE
Maintain the Disk Expansion Unit in the best operating status by doing routinely the checks and
the maintenance operations described below. If you suspect an error has occurred, contact your
sales representative.

LEDs Check

Check the displays of the LEDs on the front of the Disk Expansion Unit and those for the hard
disks installed in the disk bay. See the section "LED Indications" for more information on the
LEDs. If a LED signals an error has occurred in the Disk Expansion Unit, contact your sales
representative.

Backup

NEC recommends you make backup copies on a regular basis of your valuable data stored in hard
disks of the Disk Expansion Unit. For more information on the backup storage devices suitable
for the Disk Expansion Unit and the backup tools, contact your sales representative.
Make a backup copy of the disk array configuration information. When your hard disks have
been rebuilt due to a failure, we recommend you make a backup copy of the configuration
information. To do so, select "Backup/Restore Configuration" from the Tool menu of the Disc
Array Controller Configuration Utility.
