    This Quick Start Guide is intended to help you set up and use the basic features of the MAX 420 as quickly and simply as possible. In addition to this Quick Start Guide, the MAX 420 is shipped with three product manuals: ?? A Hardware Installation Guide that describes hardware installation, cabling, and safety-related issues.

    Additional Requirements To configure and manage the unit, you will need: ?? An IP address, netmask, and gateway address for the MAX 420 (if your LAN uses static addresses). ?? A Net2Phone account number and PIN (available from your reseller).

    MAX with 4 ports. Physical Port Numbering Figure 1 illustrates the physical port numbering on the MAX 420’s rear panel. These numbers are referenced by the MAX Web Manager when identifying ports, setting up the MAX’s features and configuring Net2Phone calling accounts.

    Do not place objects on top of the unit. Please refer to the Net2Phone MAX 420 Hardware Installation Guide and observe the safety precautions listed.
  • Page 8 When you have finished connecting the MAX’s FXS ports as illustrated above, plug the unit into a power outlet and turn it on. Your Net2Phone MAX 420 hardware setup is now complete. The next step is to configure the unit to communicate with your LAN so that you can browse the MAX Web Manager.

    LAN before you can browse the MAX Web Manager, MAX 420’s Web-based configuration system. If your LAN is using DHCP, configuring the Net2Phone MAX 420 will entail the following steps: 1. Obtain the MAX 420’s current IP address.

    2. Enter the netmask address from the telephone keypad using the same format that you used to enter the IP address (e.g., 255.255.255.0 #). 3. Reset the Net2Phone MAX 420 to activate the changes. To do this, power- off the unit, wait 10 seconds, and turn it on again.

    Managing Single and Multiple Accounts Single account management For single account management: 1. In the box for Port #1 in the Account column, enter a Net2Phone account number. 2. In the PIN field, enter the Personal Identification Number for that account.

    Placing calls to destinations within North America Pick up the handset on a telephone connected to one of the MAX 420’s ports and dial 1 + the area code + the local number, followed by the pound key. For example, if the area code is 212 and the local number is 555-6791, you would dial 1 212 5556971 #.
